1954 NFL Championship Game

The 1954 National Football League championship game was the 22nd annual championship game. The NFL title game was held on December 26, 1954, at Cleveland Municipal Stadium, Cleveland, Ohio. This was the third straight title game between the Detroit Lions and the Cleveland Browns. Detroit won the previous two Championship meetings.
The Detroit Lions had finished the 1954 season with a record of 9–2–1 and the Western Conference title. The Lions were led by quarterback Bobby Layne and running back Doak Walker, coached by Buddy Parker. The Cleveland Browns had finished the regular season with a record of 9–3 and won the Eastern Conference. The Browns were led by their head coach Paul Brown and quarterback Otto Graham.
==Game Summary==
The Lions struck first, with a Doak Walker's 36-yard field goal. Six plays after the next kickoff, the Browns took the lead on Graham's 36-yard scoring pass to Ray Renfro, never relinquishing the lead as the Lions' run game was stopped effectively by the Browns' defense, intercepting Layne (who went 18 for 42, passing for 177 yards) six times, with Len Ford and Kenny Konz pulling in two each. The Browns also recovered three Detroit fumbles, twice leading to scores. Tom Dublinski was inserted as quarterback after Cleveland took a 49-10 lead.
